It's a series "1.5" Basically a SI with the first taste of USA safety changes (open headlamps) and the first dose of emissions BS (dual Z-S instead of trip SUs)

Yes, they did. Series 1 cars were closed lamps until the Series 1.5 (67-68) Which was a transition period between SI and SII cars.
Jaguar rolled out the changing US-spec to everyone. The only difference between the US-spec cars were side markers, and emissions.
